 Brian Tracy

Brian Tracy (born January 5, 1944, in Vancouver, Canada) is a self-help author and motivational speaker.  He serves as President of Brian Tracy International, a human resources company based in Solana Beach, California, affiliated with the United States and thirty-one other countries.

Early Life

After leaving high school before graduation, Tracy got a job on a Trump steamer and traveled around the world for eight years, eventually visiting more than eighty countries on five continents.

When he did not get a job as a laborer, he went into sales.  Conflicting at first, he decided to seek advice from other successful salesmen and then emulate them.  By the end of his first year, he attained the status of the top salesman.  After his second year, he was made vice president in charge of 95 people.  At that time he was only 25 years old.

Professional life

Beginning in 1981, Tracy assembled his "success system", initially called "The Phoenix Seminar".  Three years later, in 1985, he released an updated version of this seminar in the form of a self-help audio tape called "The Psychology of Achievement".

Tracy's book Maximum Achievement was included in Tom Butler-Boden's book 50 Success Classics (2004) as one of the 50 Success, Motivation, and Leadership Classics.

Tracy is a member of the Board of Trustees for the Heritage Foundation, a conservative Washington, D.C.-based public policy research institute.

His body of work is based on several other success "gurus" such as Earl Nightingale, Jim Rohan, and Dennis Wetley.  He has recently launched [When?] Brian Tracy University, an online course of study designed to help entrepreneurs, business owners, and sales professionals.

Brian Tracy College of Business and Entrepreneurship (a distance education school located in Hoover, Alabama) at Andrew Jackson University, named after him and based on his teachings.  At ALM Media's New York headquarters, a legal publisher, Tracy's motivational citation appears on the wall of the office: "Excellence is not a destination; it is a continuous journey that never ends."

In March 2008, Brian Tracy and some of his business partners created learning global, another online learning community.

Personal life

Brian Tracy's wife's name is Barbara and they have four children (Christina, Michael, David, and Catherine).  Brian Tracy has three brothers, Robin, Dalmar, and Paul (Tracy dedicated his book "Million Dollar Habits" to his three brothers).

In April 2010, Tracy officially announced on her blog that she was suffering from throat cancer, which eventually disappeared.

Personal development journey
