Stephen Richards Covey (born October 24, 1932, in Salt Lake City, Utah) is the author of the best-selling book, The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People.  His other books written include First Things First, Principal-Centered Leadership, and The Seven Habits of Highly Effective Families.  In 2004, Covey released The 8 Habit.  In 2008, Covey released The Leader in Me-How Schools and Parents Around Are Inspiring Greatness, One Child at a Time.  He was John M. at Utah State University.  Huntsman is a professor in the School of Business.

Early life

Covey is the son of Stephen Glenn Covey and his wife Irene Lewis Richards.  Louise is the daughter of Stephen L. Richards, an apostle, and counselor to the first presidency of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints under David O. McKay.

Education

Covey has a B.S.  In Business Administration from the University of Utah, an MBA from Harvard University, and a Doctor of Religious Education (DRE) from Brigham Young University.  Covey is a brother of Pi Kappa Alpha International fraternity.  He has been awarded ten honorary doctorates.

Awards and achievements

In 1994, he was the recipient of the International Entrepreneur of the Year Award.

In 1996, 'Time' magazine named him as 'One of the 25 Most Influential Americans'.

In 1998, he was awarded the Sikh's International Man of Peace Award.

In 2003, he received the 'Fatherhood Award' from The National Fatherhood Initiative, a non-profit organization.

In 2004, he was the recipient of the 'Golden Gayle' award, awarded to him by Toastmasters International, a non-profit educational organization.

On November 14, 2009, he was inducted into the Utah Valley Entrepreneurial Forum Hall of Fame.
